Each module is split into five topics. Each topic should take about 15 minutes to complete. If you can, work through the topics in numerical order and finish each topic in one session.
If you need to leave a topic before finishing it, click the close button.
Use the direction arrows
to move forward and back through the topic. At the end of each topic a popup menu will appear so that you can either go back to the main menu or go back to the topic. You can go through each topic as often as you like.

Module 1. Understanding stress and well-being
The information in this module will help you to understand just what stress is and how, if not handled effectively, it can lead to ill heath and a reduction in personal effectiveness. The module also takes you on a personal journey to identify specific behaviours and thoughts which may prevent you being as healthy and effective as you would like to be.

If you score more than 70%, you will be eligible for a certificate showing that you have successfully completed the course.

Module 2. Helping yourself
You can study this module without having first studied module 1.
Beginning with an overview of what stress is, it moves on to explain in detail what a healthy lifestyle entails. It provides ideas, tips and techniques to help you deal with stress, develop a healthier lifestyle and adopt a more effective mindset.

Topic 1 Overview
With an overview of what stress is, this looks at why different people are affected by pressure in different ways, before exploring different ways in which we can tackle stress and improve personal effectiveness. Each suggestion is dealt with as a separate topic.
Topic 2 Healthy lifestyle
How to be prepared by developing a healthy lifestyle. The topic includes:
- How to get a good night's sleep
- The effects of an unhealthy diet and how to eat more healthily
- The effects of alcohol and smoking on our health
- How to have a sensible exercise routine
- How to relax and unwind
Topic 3 Change your behaviour
Looking at aspects of our behaviour that reduce personal effectiveness and add to our stress, this topic shows us how to adopt more effective behaviour, including:
- Better time management and/or assertiveness
- Learning to handle change
- Developing a support network and social life
- Taking time out to recover and relax
Topic 4 Change your perceptions
Explaining how we develop faulty thinking mechanisms and how these prevent us from achieving our potential and cause us stress. The topic shows us how to find more appropriate ways of thinking.
For example, one exercise asks us to behave as scientists, detectives or lawyers to try to determine the validity of our thoughts.

At the end of module two, you will be able to devise and print out a personal action plan to improve your personal effectiveness.
